Commissioner John Szerdi - Dumb and Dumber

Comment Up

Well, he's done it before...being less than polite to some people who speak before the commission or even taking sides against people who have different opinions than the present commission majority. Just think about it--if you walked into your bosses office and told him he was dumber than dumb, what would happen?

Last night, resident Peter Timm was in Szerdi's cross-hairs. Mr. Timm is adamant that all property owners in this city, regardless of income or property value, pay the exact same amount of money in the form of an assessment on the advalorem tax bill for roads infrastructure. Mr. Timm is a fine fellow but just doesn't quite comprehend the impossibility of special assessments for this money grab because his mindset is "fairness." We all agree to fairness as does the Vice Mayor. Mr. Timm has had his fairness concerns answered on many occasions. I guess last night was the last straw as Commissioner Szerdi insulted Mr. Timm by inferring that he was dumber than dumb.  In front of the chamber and all those listening on the Internet, Szerdi gave a synopsis of the following from the movie Dumb and Dumber directed towards Peter Timm:

Lloyd Christmas: What do you think the chances are of a guy like you and a girl like me... ending up together?
Mary Swanson: Well, Lloyd, that's difficult to say. I mean, we don't really...
Lloyd Christmas: Hit me with it! Just give it to me straight! I came a long way just to see you, Mary. The least you can do is level with me. What are my chances?
Mary Swanson: Not good.
Lloyd Christmas: You mean, not good like one out of a hundred?
Mary Swanson: I'd say more like one out of a million.
[pause]
Lloyd Christmas: So you're telling me there's a chance... YEAH!

Zerdi proved he's not too funny if that's what he was trying to do?

Another thing mentioned at last nights meeting was a statement made by the Vice Mayor, when after a comment made on the 20/20 Bond issue he said, "most of the time people hear what they want to hear". I was at the same meeting and I didn't hear Commissioner Szerdi infer that Mr. Timm was dumb. What I heard was even though the consultants who helped the city draft the bond proposal said there might be some sort of special assessment option it would be very unlikely to hold up in court if someone was to challenge it. Commissioner Szerdi was using the line in the movie to say that even though a special assessment is unlikely to work, just like said in the movie, "so you're telling me, there's a chance!" My takeaway from Commissioner Szerdi comment was that even though he didn't think Mr. Timm's idea would work, he admired Mr. Timm's optimism!

"Most of the time people hear what they want to hear." Politics has a way of twisting messages in LW. Thanks for your perspective.
Szerdi looked directly at Mr. Timm when he said it.

You just can not make this stuff up!

The video isn't up yet on the city site. I believe the clerk use to post it way before 10 am the following day - now I believe the job is handed off to another person
(must be all those hands Andy speaks of that must touch an item [12x] before it can be passed)? Why doesn't the clerk just post it immediately?

Can anyone explain if this is difficult or time consuming?

Some times the truth hurts. I was there too and I've listened to the honorable Mr. Timm say the same thing over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over. I'm glad someone finally told him to put a sock in it.

The point you are missing here, anony at 1:50 is that Mr. Tim has the right to speak on anythign he wants during his 2 crappy minutes. He is the boss of these bozos and they should be treating everyone with respect whether they agree or not.

How dare Szerdi make a Dumb and Dumber reference when responding to what ANY of our citizens said? Mr. Timm is the boss of Szerdi and everyone else on the dais.Commissioner John(I'm an architect) Szerdi is just a rude, arrogant tool that does what he's told to do .
Another highlight of last night's latest episode of the Cash Grab Quartet came from one of their faithful servants, Piggy(who's my Daddy) Fisher.Rushing up to the mic ,with a righteous and heaving bosom(as much as the poor things CAN heave)Piggy tried to justify Mayor Pam Triolo's total lack of civility towards Commissioner Christopher Mcvoy with a rules recitation that was so boring that it made Mr. Timm's words seem like a Lil Wayne rap.Talk about a one in a million chance! Bottom line, Szerdi was the one looking dumber than dumb ,and Triolo is just a rude twit.

Szeredi is attached to the idea of a GO bond, for reasons that are unclear. At the meeting at Compass, both the bond expert and the attorney made it clear that a special assessment could be used and, further, that there was a process the city could follow to essentially get a court to "bless" the special assessment, which would protect it from law-suits. For whatever reason, Szerdi keeps pretending that's not the case and that a GO bond is the only option. Follow the money...
