Former commissioner speaks - Strength in Numbers

Comment Up

Retha Lowe, former Lake Worth City Commissioner in Lake Worth District 1, announced last night at the Genesis NA meeting that Whispering Palms Neighborhood Association, of which she is a member, will be combined with Genesis NA in order to get planned projects completed for the neighborhood.

Strength in numbers? Parilla refused to join with the rest of the neighborhoods in Lake Worth that belong to the NAPC. Parlla thumbed his nose at the concept of strength in numbers. As for Lowe, she is just a confused old women. Thank GOD she no longer makes decisions with our money !

Lowe spoke about how we all need to bring our issues and concerns to our commissioners. She said that is what she does. But when she was a commissioner, she never bothered to do anything about anything, all the other commissioners here in LW are the same damn way now too, the commissioners in LW are lame they are DO NOTHINGS. They do not address citizens concerns at all, in fact, they make you feel bad if you bring some issue to them. Mark goes beyond commissioners, he goes to Jamie Brown and the CM, the PBSO, etc. and he gets things done. He knows how to do it and get around the system that is broken here. Lowe could never do a damn thing as the Dist 1 comm. she was ineffective. That is why she is now joining with Mark and Genesis as she knows he is the squeaky wheel that can get things done and is. A lot of people may not like Mark, but he gets things done. All those dirt roads on the south side now all being addressed is proof of it, someone has his ear.

It is not just Lowe, Maxwell, McVoy, all of them in office now cannot get anything done either and they do not want to hear the truth or be bothered by residence bringing problems to them. I can't remember when the last time was that we had a good mayor or commissioner, not in more than twenty years or so. Well, maybe only Cara Jennings. She was the only one really effective and sincere.

I never refused to join the other neighborhood associations in the NAPC. I was an active member of the NAPC for over a year. I resigned for reasons I have discussed in the past and do not need to justify to anyone over again. Genesis is considering rejoining the NAPC after February 2015. I still, however, have always volunteered and helped in other neighborhood associations. Robert Waples and I power washed a roof in College Park after Commissioner Amoroso called and gave me the phone number of a senior woman who was recovering from cancer and had just finished chemo, who lived in College Park. I reached out to Mary Lindsey and she did not express any interest in helping the woman because she stated the woman's son had money. She was ready to go before special magistrate so I stepped in and asked to use Robert Waples power washer and Robert and I got up on her roof on a Saturday morning and made her roof look brand new and we got her code court case resolved. Herman Robinson came out and did the woman's lawn. That is just ONE example of me not wanting to work with the other neighborhood associations. I received a call today from another neighborhood association in the city who wants to do a candidate forums like the one Genesis did. I am helping him coordinate that. The results of what Genesis has accomplished within its boundaries is also evidence that I thumb my nose at the concept of strength in numbers. Anonymous can you name another N.A. that has three corporate sponsors that fund community improvement projects? Attack me on anything else and you may stand a chance but when you attack my service and working with other in my community you will never win on that one!

Ebulliently,
Mark A. Parrilla
