The Great Divide - Lake Worth

Comment Up

Yesterday the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections certified the election results and the Lake Worth Bond Measure failed by 25 votes.  No vote recount.
The official vote tally is:
For:  1545
Against:  1570

The city of Lake Worth knew the certification had occurred prior to last evening as it went into its discussion of "disenfranchisement." In any election where the final vote is close, the loser will always object and even sometimes ask for a recount.  This time it was the City of Lake Worth that spent a small fortune of taxpayer money to win the election that called a meeting last night in order to bring forth testimony from all those they could find who had a problem at their polling precinct.  Although no opinion was allowed to be given, it was.  Hearsay was the mantra for the evening.

A scheduled one hour long meeting lasted two as there was no limit on public speaking.  No opinion was allowed. The first speaker who didn't have a personal problem at her precinct was allowed to give opinion testimony in a meeting that was not even quasi-judicial.  The dais listened intently to the horror stories. One came from former commissioner, Retha Lowe, who indicated her entire family had problems even going so far as to say that she couldn't find the entrance to her precinct although she had voted there before.

As I was a poll watcher, I can attest to the fact that two people had problems at my precinct at 7:00am, one of whom was me.  I came back to vote at 8:30 and all was cleared up. I did not get any other reports of problems that day nor did I witness any. The First Congressional Church at 1415 N k Street seemed to have the most problems where two precincts cast votes--3042 and 3064. Our Savior Lutheran was mentioned by one voter and Oasis at 12th Avenue South, by Ms. Lowe,  precinct, 7162.

The City is unhappy with the provisional ballots that were not accepted and the city attorney cited some state statute. The city had an entourage in Rivera Beach on the provisional ballot count consisting of the city clerk, two city attorneys, the city manager and the mayor. Per an observer, City Clerk Pam Lopez "hovered all over the panel and personally reviewed every envelope."

The City of Lake Worth will now spend more money on legal fees so Glen Torcivia can conjure up a case by contacting the other cities in the county to attempt to solidify its grievance  against the Supervisor of Elections. There were only three cities that had problems out of thirty-eight in the County. The Supervisor of Elections has admitted that there were some quirks in the new technology that were cleared up in the first hour.

Although the mayor would like to end the divide, how can that happen when people were solicited by the city for their experience in order to form a case against the election, some of which was hearsay.  Every voter got the opportunity to vote and could have come back later to cast a ballot.

Last night City Manager Michael Bornstein called Susan Bucher "condescending."
The great divide continues
In her re-election she won with 68% of the vote.

The city attny is always giving state statutes to try and over throw an election,,,even the last one is not overthrown. The city should have invited Bucher but that was not their purpose to listen to fact. They love one-sided cases.

lynn, you certainly hide from truth. i guess you are totally afraid of truthful comments. the vote was about 50/50 but your posting of comments is 90/10.

I speak the facts, anonymous and post under my own name. I stand up for things that I write about. What about you? Still dishing the dirt, I see.

You really need to read and interpret. The vote was 50.42 to 49.58% but I was writing about the city's solicitation of YES people to promote a case of disenfranchisement.

I agree Lynn. Perhaps we should all just duct tape ourselves as they dont want to hear our opinions and still dont get the message after an election.

City is scheduled to certify the Referendum on SEPT 23 (Nearly a month after the Aug 26th vote).

Would they wait this long to certify one of their elections?

The meeting was a dog & pony show!
The clerk announced it was all about US but in fact it was all about the dais getting their panties in a bunch!

How much does the Lawyer COST PER HOUR for this BS and that's money NOT SPENT on the roads. We already knew they don't give a rats a$$ about our votes as evidenced in the heights vote! Plus their obvious lack of understanding that the City Charter is our Constitution & it comes BEFORE the Comp Plan! The state law was about the comp plan and NOT THE CITY CHARTER!

What doesn't come out in the wash comes out in the rinse. I think this was the rinse cycle from the heights vote and I could hardly contain myself as they doth protested the 'PROCESS"!

Karma is a bitch!

Lowe doesn't know where to vote unless she has a free hotdog or hamburger stuffed in her mouth. Could she not see all of the "vote here " signs out front? It really is terrifying to realize that this woman was actually a Commissioner .

Wee tha if I recall correctly, the Attorney before the election that everyone is so sore about, Ina public meeting said that this was an issue, that was at the state level, and we should hold off going to referendum, but NO We need to vote Now. So we did. The state ruled, and the city accepted the State Rule. What can I say I am a lowly peon just like you but I do not bring it up Every day. Life goes on get over it,I have, and I have yet to see the tall buildings that are going to block the sun, the ocean breeze, and interrupt Ms.Deli breakfast with her dogs.

I am disturbed that every election, there seems to be new technology (that we pay for) and new problems. I agree that this is a problem, but it is not the City's problem it is the individual voter's problem.

You need to know where to vote, look it up online, review your sample ballot, etc. Or if you have concerns about the voting process, vote early (which is what I did) so you have time to address any issues if there are any.

Anon at 10:12am, I have lived in Lake Worth for years, and 9 times out of 10 we have a problem with an election in this city.

Anon at 10:42 pm, I could not agree with you more, I listened to all the lies, and scary innuendos that were given out by those who wanted No heights ( no its No infrastructure or taxes.) I am still waiting for All Those Developers, that were friend with the majority of the commission, waiting at the city limits to get to build, build, build. Has not happened yet. Hey Lynn we are still waiting

There were NO lies. It was simple, anonymous. People wanted to keep our downtown to no more than 45 feet and 35 feet west of Dixie. You didn't. It's cute that every time you LOSE AN ELECTION, the prevailing side "lied." Can't you come up with anything better than that? Didn't think so.

Anonymous said...

hahaha, the only group that lied were those developer whores with the illegal banner. I think you got fined for that. hahaha again.

Lynn, you would know how much was the fine? If you can't remember call Mulvehil, I'm sure she would remember and while your at it ask her why she dropped the lawsuit.

Lynn Anderson said...

Are you talking about the Gulfstream banner? What would Mulvehill have to do with it. Mulvehill had nothing to do with any lawsuit. She hasn't had to put up with your personal attacks now for several years.
