This is America the last time I checked

Comment Up

I just returned home from a Third World experience.  No one working in this store spoke or understood English. Is this America or what?  Checked with a store clerk--NO English....he was muttering something in bunny language.  The gal at the register called someone from in back of the store who sort of understood what I asked and pointed me in the right direction for Easter wrapping paper.  This is what's happening in our country and a big reason why the American citizen wants the illegal immigrant to go home.

One of the requirements of becoming a United States citizen is answered in this FAQ:

Do I need to be able to speak English to become a U.S. citizen?

Yes, you must be able to read, write, and speak simple English.  There are some exceptions for some older and long-time residents, and for some disabled permanent residents.  What about understanding it?

They should be arrested and put in jail if caught speaking any language other than english in public!
If this is not a law then we must make sure this is one of the first orders of business when a republican is in the white house.

LOL. You are a total wise-guy anonymous above. Just follow the damn law and the Constitution and we would all be better off. Thanks.

Why is it the US does not have an official language? Benjamin Franklin was opposed to have English as the official language of the country, actually he was willing to support the acceptance of French as the official language of the US. Now, since Christopher Columbus, not a Spaniard, discovered this continent, where the US resides, for the Spanish crown, it really belong to us, therefore we are claiming what is rightfully ours... you'll just have been keeping it for us, now give it back. Now put this in pipe and smoke it... no sean pendejos el español is here to stay... y nosotros seremos la mayoría en un futuro no muy lejano...

Hey Juan, you're drinking too much coffee again...no wonder you know nothing much about our country. Ben Franklin was very concerned about immigration--
Founding father Benjamin Franklin bluntly expressed this last concern with regard to German immigrants, who made up 30 percent of Pennsylvania’s population, writing in the mid-eighteenth century: “Those who come hither are generally of the most ignorant Stupid Sort of their own Nation . . . and as few of the English understand the German Language, and so cannot address them either from the Press or Pulpit, ’tis almost impossible to remove any prejudices they once entertain. . . . Not being used to Liberty, they know not how to make a modest use of it ."

What about you, Juan? Are you a citizen?

The US of A, has no national or official language, so people can speak whatever language they want. Yes, people who are seeking citizenship have to demonstrate basic English skills, but they don't have to be fluent.

If you were upset with the service at this business due to the language skills of the employees, the best way to show your dissatisfaction is to leave and take your shopping dollars elsewhere.
