Immigration Reform

Comment Up

As thousands continue to cross our borders and take American jobs, getting a consensus by both Republicans and Democrats on immigration reform is difficult with the millions of immigrants living in the United States illegally. The government continues to toss out the figure of 11 million illegals but some estimates have the illegal population as high as 33 million.  Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R-Fla.), at the same event, was optimistic that a small circle of House Republicans has legislative language that could work to address that issue.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free;
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless,
Tempest-tossed to me
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!
But only if they are white Europeans...

That's not it, Juan--
The United States now has laws about how people can enter the country and how long they can stay. It has laws about how to become an American citizen. Those for whom Congress are debating have broken these laws or are children of illegal immigrants. Why do we have laws, Juan?

Ms. Anderson, I have been entertained by your blog for quite some time... however I have never read anything posted by you saying or implying something nice about Latinos, Hispanics, Coconuts or Spiks. I subscribe to the idea that in your perfect world there would be no other than white western Europeans...

Juan, it has always been curious to me why Latinos jump to some conclusion of "racism." This is about what is LEGAL and what is not.

Ms. Anderson, the word racism or racist does not appear in my early posting. There is no conclusion on my part, to put in simple words, it is my believe you would prefer a perfect world as I described it in my earlier post. One observation, I have never read or heard any person complaining about the illegal Irish, Canadians, Hungarians, Checks, Polish, Spaniard (they aren't Hispanics) Russians, Norwegians, Chinese, etc., but when it comes to black immigrants and brown immigrant, then that's a different story. Just ask yourself, who takes care of the lawns, who cares for the kids of working people, who washes dishes a restaurants... do you think for a minute that non-immigrants would do that? I think not... a little kindness to those that are les fortunate than you and I would go a long way... yes I'm an immigrant that believe in the law of the land... but neither you or I can do anything about it. It is up to our elected rectal orifices to fix it... mean while lets show a little empathy to those who destiny or misfortune brought them to this wonderful country... May you have an all American day!!!

...Juan, am I missing something here?

There isn't one reference to ANY demographic in Lynn's' initial post.

Could you be so kind as to point it if I have missed it?

Where did the Hispanic element enter into your concern?
