Red Light Cameras

Comment Up
Red-Light camera supporters and cities that have implemented the programs say it's all about safety--they lie! Everyone knows it has always been about the money.

The Florida House Highway Transportation and Safety Committee, one that State Sen Jeff Clemens once was a member when he was in the House and who pushed for Red-Light cameras says that if the bill is passed, cities would not retain much money, if any, from the tickets.

This week the Florida House Transportation and Highway Safety Subcommittee approved the proposal, THSS 14-01, a plan that also intends to reduce the amount of red-light camera tickets from $158 to $83, and prohibit local governments from installing new cameras.

So happy to see them disappearing. Spoke with Jeff Clemens about tem and stated that if it was all about safety, they should extend the yellow or delay the green for a second or two. This was a typical pay back for a campaign supporter, the camera company.

Think of the irony; safety is the reason for the money grubbing red light cameras but then he wants to raise the speed limit to 75 where people already exceed eighty regularly.

I think his support for weed is personal, though.

Sen. Clemons is consistent in his support of the camera scheme. Last session, he gutted a bill (SB 1342) that did not ban the cameras and instead offered safety enhancements such as longer yellow lights. His late-filed amendment turned the bill 180 degrees and it then had the support of government and camera lobbyists. His work lead to the creation of locally-run kangaroo courts that make even more money for local agencies.
