Comment Up

Perhaps the PBSO should move that unoccupied sheriff vehicle to Lucerne Avenue.

But wait, here's another crime, this one on J Street right in the heart of our downtown. Guess we need two unoccupied sheriff vehicles.

Is this ever going to sink in with this commission or are they going to ignore it as usual.

Crime in our downtown is a problem, one would think that the merchants would have enough sway over the commission to get them to do something. But it seems like our elected officials are not even interested in the business group downtown.

There is little to no police presence downtown and as a result these problems will continue. WPB utilizes security guards in downtown that work with the WPB police, maybe we need to do the same thing. But considering the amount spend on PBSO it would seem odd that we would have to augment our police force.

Downtown has gone straight to hell since Propaganda opened it's doors on J. street. Combine that with a do-nothing ,lazy ass bunch of cops, and we might just as well wave bye-bye to our downtown.

You all sound as if there is no crime in downtown West Palm Beach or Delray Beach. Of course there is. When ever you draw large enough people to close quarters, sprinkle in a little beer and wine and liquor, next thing you know, there will be dregs taking advantage of the situation.

This is not a Lake Worth District 14 phenomenon.

I'm not saying there is no crime in WPB or Delray, but the difference is when you go to either spot you see cops and you see them regularly. In WPB you see cops and security (yellow jackets) who "patrol" the downtown area/parking lots/parking garage in golf carts.

When you go out in LW and we are downtown almost every weekend there are almost never any cops. There is no police presence and as a result there is no effort to head off crime or address lower level crime before it escalates.

Further, the criminal element that is present in our downtown and not dissuaded by police presence scare away other patrons, families, etc. If I were a biz owner in downtown I would be complaining about lack of police patrols, b/c crime is bad for business.
