Keep Lake Worth Low-Rise

Comment Up

Of course this is an exaggeration. Sustainability may be defined as "keeping things going in a healthy way, long into an uncertain future." And that's what we want to do in Lake Worth. Your YES vote on amendment 2 will help towards that end.

The bigger you are and the more people you have, the more problems you get. See New York crime stats. Lake Worth is the most dense city in Palm Beach County. We have enough problems without adding to them.

VOTE YES ON 2 ON TUESDAY

Lynn, I have said it before and I will say it again, we cannot build north, south, east, or west... So the only way we can go is up.

Lynn, define healthy. The way this City is going ( very unhealthy) Lake Worth as we know it will be gone within the next decade. And I am not talking about the Commission I am talking about Budgets, Pensions, etc.

What is it these wankers don't understand? We don't want to build up or out. We want to keep our nice, low-rise small town.

Yup, get rid of the Unions. This commission had a chance to outsource utility customer service. They could have rid themselves of inefficient workers and unions at the same time. They didn't. They played politics instead. Good for them; bad for Lake Worth.

You can't build yourself out of this problem. It is the rich speculator who got us where we are--it is the illegal immigrant population living 20 to a room--and right now, real estate is recovering a bit and once again, it is speculators buying up properties. The cycle will continue. Who do I blame this on? The lousy government and it starts AT THE TOP. We have had a very hard time in the recovery because of our older housing stock and 25 foot lot lines. Granted, the CRA built 78 little houses that look ok but it did nothing for the slum, the blight and the crime. We are still poor and those houses were for the poor. Until we can attract high-end housing stock, we are in trouble. LW has high taxes so this is another negative for anyone wanting to build expensive homes or bringing in a business. We are in a Catch 22.

Building up our city 2 more stories will not give us the taxes. you know it. Ideally, I would like to see a few small hotels built here, the Gulfstream's foreclosure over and the property sold for the appraised value, re-built into a hotel. No one says that the developers must have a spa, tennis courts or anything like that to attract a tourist--just modern rooms and a good restaurant and a place to park. They come here to visit our beach and play golf, etc.
