Roadway/Sidewalk Contract Study for Lake Worth

Comment Up

This majority commission has always condemned former commissions for contracting with various companies for studies in order to make value judgments.

Now this trio is doing the exact same thing they like to complain about--A study on our streets and sidewalks is on Consent Agenda for tomorrow night--no discussion--just their vote of approval.

This contract will provide for a survey of all streets and sidewalks in the City in order to create an overall roadway and sidewalk master plan. This Master Plan, which does not currently exist, will be used to plan infrastructure and prioritize repair and replacement projects. The total cost of this project is not to exceed $128,987.00.

We approve of this Study as we have of all previous Studies.

Can't the item be pulled from the Consent Agenda for discussion? Of course, the answer is YES. So if the item gets moverd to New Business and thoroughly discussed, would you then be wrinting the same thing in this blog? No action has been taken on this proposed study because the meeting has not taken place yet. Your statements make it otherwise.

The planning/bidding for the "Master Plan' was discussed in at least 2 of the 3 CDBG town meetings that I attended.... just in case you want to look back. Not sure if you were in attendance, but I think you were for at least one of them.... Check it out. I had asked a question in one of the meetings (The one at the golf course) that was answered quite thoroughly by city staff. If you go back to the minutes, if they are posted online, you can find infomation there... Once the master plan is completed, then budgeted funding can be used to do such thing as paving streets and making new sidewalks... Which I know we all want....and soon. Approve Approve Approve!!! Yay!

An item of this magnitude should never appear on the Consent Agenda without discussion. Why does this continue to happen?

Lynn, it seems to me that it is difficult to compare a Master Study to “provide for a survey of all streets and sidewalks in the City in order to create an overall roadway and sidewalk master plan”
And
Studies to justify CM & Staff desires to return the Police Function to LW and to retain Fire Services VS the legitimate requirement for efficiency, cost effectiveness and value engineering to do a Study to coordinate and properly prioritize the repair, replacement and construction of roads and sidewalks.
Of course, an added difference was that most of the Commission and the citizens didn’t want the Staff preferences for Police and Fire, while I believe the road and street repairs will be warmly accepted.

Well Doh! They had a Streets Dept. That kept track of every cracked sidewalk and every pothole in the city BUT NOOOOOO

They laid them all off and deleted the dept! I called the number to try and get a pothole fixed thats getting bigger and bigger and got someone with Stormwater and said they dont fix asphalt streets anymore. It's done by a contactor!

OK, whatever, anonymous. Now you want to justify "studies." Of course you do and you always have an answer.

I was at the meeting at the golf course when it was mentioned the price was $30,000 dollars. Not $128,000.That was a meeting to discuss C.D.B.G funding.
